Kia has been on the roll for the past few years now, and they show no signs of stopping as exemplified by the 2013 Kia Rio Hatchback. The Rio is Kia’s challenger to the Ford Fiesta, with both trying to win the automotive industry’s super-mini class. The Rio offers four engine options to choose from: (1) 1.1-liter CRDI, (2) 1.4-liter CRDI, (3) 1.25-liter petrol and (4) 1.4-liter petrol. With its contemporary styling, generous interior space, appealing engine options and distinctive side creases, the Rio is definitely one of today’s most distinct super-minis on sale.

In terms of driving performance, the 2013 Rio performs well, with the gearbox feeling solid with well-controlled body roll. However, steering and speed is not the Rio’s forte. The 1-4liter gasoline model, which is supposed to be the fastest of the four Rio options, goes from 0-62mph in 11.1seconds.  On the upside, the Rio is able to keep road and wind noise to a minimum when running on highways.

Interior of the 2013 Rio is really spacious compared to other super-minis. The rear and front cabins offer good leg and headroom. Only on longer journeys will passengers especially at the rear will have any complaints. With the split folding rear seats, luggage capacity available is 923 liters.

For complete peace of mind, the Rio, as with other Kias nowadays, come with a seven-year warranty. Overall, the car’s build quality and design matches well with other European models such as the Renault Clio or Peugeot 208.

The 2013 Rio approximately retails from $13,000 to $19,345 with nine body colors to choose from.
