Swedish truck manufacturer Scania is the latest to jump into the bandwagon and first ever company to unveil a smartwatch aimed for drivers. It’s called “Black Griffin”, a rebranded Sony SmartWatch 3 which has been already available in limited 999 units only.
Basically, it’s technological features were what you can find on a Sony SmartWatch 3, however, there are software upgrades to have it considered first on the smartwatch market. The Scania smartwatch runs on Android Wear powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor which is being backed up by a 512MB of RAM. There’s a 320×320, 1.6-inch touchscreen display that accordingly will show 3 different watch faces, specifically 2 digital and an analog one. In addition, there will be a 4GB internal memory, 420mAh of battery pack and it’s tested to be water-splash resistant (IP68 certification).
Scania as a truck manufacturer, this smartwatch will be like an added attractive feature on their products as accessories. This driver’s smartwatch can connect through the company’s so called “FMS Integration” in which in an instant you’ll have an overview of your driving activities, behavior or even fuel consumption comparison in weekly data. You can easily analyze your driving through the available metrics such speed, average mileage or even fuel consumption and further improve your driving efficiency.
Scania’s Black Griffin smartwatch is now available in their online store for a not-so-cheap €295 but knowing how well trackers are compensated on that region, well, they might just have this cool accessory if they want.
